In a recent Total Retail article, ePost Global’s Vice President of Strategic Sales and Administration, Helaine Rich, examined how tariffs, regulatory changes, and carrier instability are forcing retailers to rethink peak season planning and build more agile logistics strategies.

Rich underscored how tariff workarounds that look effective on paper can quickly unravel in practice, noting that “import rules are highly origin-specific, and a SKU that moves easily from the U.S. into Canada can become restricted the moment it originates in Europe.”

She also pointed to ongoing carrier disruptions as a critical lesson from recent peak seasons, writing that “networks clog quickly” and warning that “strikes and interruptions will continue to occur, and when they happen during peak, recovery is slow and the customer impact is significant.”

These realities are pushing retailers to prioritize contingency routing, diversified carrier strategies, and operational flexibility over speed alone.
