In a recent FreightWaves article, Alison Layfield, Director of Product Development at ePost Global, shared her perspective on Canada Post’s sharp 50% year-over-year decline in parcel volumes, as ongoing labor uncertainty and market shifts continue to push shippers toward alternative carriers.
“Canada Post’s biggest mistake was they did not move forward with any changes in their network structure, which made them unable to compete,” Layfield said, pointing to the rise of agile competitors like Amazon Dragonfly and Fleet Optic.
She emphasized that structural change is long overdue: “They need to reimagine the day-to-day standard postal delivery and be great at dealing with the competition in the express world.”
