Meet Mary Rivera, the dynamic Director of Human Resources at ePost Global, with a passion for collaboration and innovation, Mary is dedicated to creating a supportive and empowering work environment. Her journey from Customer Service Manager to HR leader, backed by advanced degrees in international business and inclusive leadership, showcases her commitment to professional growth and employee advocacy.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to work in International Logistics. 

I am an energetic individual who thrives on collaborating with people and launching innovative ideas and products. As a passionate advocate for employees, I strive to create supportive and empowering work environments. I love building a work environment that propels our company goals forward, and I love it when the team feels confident in providing ideas and having the bandwidth to execute and own the results. 

In my downtime, I enjoy reading, cooking, spending quality time with my family, and curating a selection of underdog independent films for us to watch. I often delight in the charm of those “horrible” yet endearing movies (based on my family’s constant feedback on my selections and their hesitation in providing me with the remote). 

Tell us about your role at ePost Global

As the Director of Human Resources, I lead the HR department in developing and implementing strategies that support the organization’s goals and enhance employee satisfaction. My responsibilities include overseeing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and labor law compliance.

I am dedicated to fostering a positive workplace culture, advocating for employee needs, and driving initiatives that promote professional development and organizational growth. My role is pivotal in aligning HR practices with the company’s mission and ensuring a productive, inclusive, and engaging work environment through talent management and recruiting teams that align with our core values. 

What were your first steps to get into the industry?

I started my career as a Customer Service Manager in the early stages of my career. When my manager asked me to assist with a struggling logistics process for a top retailer, I embraced the opportunity and stepped out of my comfort zone. This experience exposed me to the world of logistics, which became a turning point in my career, leading to significant growth and leadership development. After being promoted to General Manager, I developed a passion for leading people and teams.

This experience inspired me to pursue further education, obtaining a master’s degree in international business and pursuing a doctorate focused on inclusive leadership development. My goal was to help others grow and understand the role of culture in creating an inclusive work environment. This journey ultimately led me to a career in Human Resources, which has been incredibly rewarding. I truly believe that in order to be successful in achieving your goals, you need to be willing to push yourself out of your comfort zone, try new opportunities that will take you on unexpected journeys, and be willing to be open to learning at all times.

What is one thing that sets ePost apart from its competitors?

The team’s commitment to its customers and its ability to collaborate daily on ongoing innovative solutions have led to some great technological and process successes that continue to position us for continued growth.  

What are you most proud of working at ePost? 

The employees in our teams are dedicated and feel at ease sharing their ideas and reaching out. It feels like a big, close-knit family working towards a common goal. I enjoy connecting with them and helping to address their concerns, whether in English or Spanish. It’s very rewarding to support a team that takes such pride in their work.

What has been one of your best days at work so far?

One of the most memorable moments for me was when our management team came together on a call to discuss and contribute to our company’s Core Values. It felt like a historic occasion, as we had the opportunity to collectively reflect on what we value most about our company and what it represents. In addition, we had our HR intern present the final product of our Core Values, and that was the icing on top!

What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work here? 

The moment I realized that ePost Global was my home was when I saw that the presented ideas were readily accepted, and I could run with my concepts and see the varying results and outcomes. I was allowed to present new ideas, try them out, and take ownership of them, whether they were successful or needed refinement.
